1.      To combine “subject-based teaching” with “ 7 Learning Fields” and “10 Basic Skills”, trying to build a warm, harmonious campus environment in which learning is joyful, each child will grow up healthily and both teachers and students get perfect life.

2.      To regulate “ The Whole Person Educational Curriculum” for schoolchildren in Shuanglian Elementary School in order to cultivate the 21-century citizens who possess humanistic feelings, local and global views, democratic traits and the capabilities of integration and life-long learning.

3.      To develop “Nine-year Integrated Curriculum for Elementary School” by humanization, pluralistic cultural and interesting approaches and under the principles of action, accountability effectiveness and sharing.

(3)              To set up “ Local Culture Teaching Resource Center”, strengthen Local Culture Teaching Activity in order to foster the students’ identification with their hometown and help them to develop a worldview.

(1)              To abandon the traditional educational emphasis on learning by rote, instead, cultivating a well-rounded citizen.

(2)              Soccer, volleyball, basketball, badminton, traditional Chinese boxing and swimming are the important events.

(3)              To take care of lunch boxes and to guide the etiquette and instruct the students to clean their teeth after lunch.

(4)              To build an indoor warm swimming pool and to held extracurricular activities and extramural activities.

She-jiang He-san was appointed to be the first principal.

Educational Philosophy(教育理念)

 

1. ParticipationIn order to have good primary education, teachers should combine efforts with parents and communities.

2. Children-centeredChildren are the principal part of education. All measures in a school should be for the rights and interests of the children.

3. Skill-orientedTeachers should instruct children methods of learning knowledge and problem solving skills. Teachers can no longer just provide a standard answer or make children recite knowledge. For this reason, teachers have to pursue further education continuously.

4. LoveThe foundation of education is unconditional love with equality among all. Without love, education is impossible.

Our objectives are to create a learning atmosphere providing mutual trust, love and truthfulness.

Chapter 3:
The mid- and long-term developing plans

of ShuangLien Elementary School

(雙蓮國小中長期發展計劃)

 

The school was established in 1952. We have the glorious history but need to think of a new direction while the community and facilities are getting old and the number of students is decreasing. Moreover, with all kinds of education reforms, we have to change in order to strive in the new century.

 

The Present Situation

1.      Geographic location
The school is located in the Ta-Tong District. There are 4 elementary schools, 2 junior high schools, 1 high school and 1 college nearby. It is convenient to commute to the school with the complete transportation net nearby the school. The school has been designated as experimental school for projects like “Consolidation of kindergartens and elementary schools”, “small-size class teaching”, “9 year-education consolidation”, “Decrease the weight of backpacks for elementary school students”.

 

2.      Community
Most of parents in the Ta-Tong District are running family business. They can not devote too much time for the school. Recently, more parents have found the time to volunteer at the school. With 5 elementary schools in one community, teachers are devoted to teaching since the competition is keen. The school has become the center of recreation in the community because the public facilities can not meet the demands.

3.      School Organization
There are 51 regular classes, 6 special education classes and 6 kindergarten classes. The total number of students is 1,453. The total number of administration and teachers is 132.

There are 1 principal and 7 departments in the school. They are : academic office, student affairs office, counseling office, general affairs office, kindergarten, accounting office and personnel office. And there are two committees: school affairs meetings and curriculum developing committee.

4.      Facilities
The buildings at the school are old and demand frequent maintenances. The school is ideal for holding activities with its badminton center, swimming pool, ping pong center, conference room and library.

1.      Long-Term Goal: We will reconstruct school buildings according to the status of each building and coordinate with government’s policy.

2.      Goal in the progression: We break the myth of traditional “knowledge-oriented” education and cultivate students’ interests in life long learning and ability to live happily.

Details of our plans and expectations (

A. General Administration (一般行政)

1.      Plan and create various “learning walk ways.” Collect and categorize data of school history, set up a room for school history and organize alumni.

2.      Computerize school’s administrative system, finish computer assistant teaching systems, and implement multi-media to improve the efficiency of education.

3.      Encourage the increased involvement of public, parents, and students to help the children in the progress of growing up.

4.      Promote the unify education, discipline and student counseling to make students knows who can help them and where to find someone to help when they are in need.

5.      Operate school as a learning organization, cultivate professional passion, promote professional knowledge, and train the best teachers.

6.      Participating educational experiment and research, and promote the quality of education.

7.      Building a good relationship with community in order to help each other and prosper together.

B. Education and Activities (教學與活動)

1.      Agenda for nine-year course

                             i.            In year 2001: First grade students.

                           ii.            In year 2002: First, second, forth grade students.

                          iii.            In year 2003: All grades students.

2.      Agenda for minimize class size

                             i.            Trail plan of minimize class size was carried out in the year of 2000.

                           ii.            The plan formally begins in the year of 2001.

3.      Plan for a full-scale learning environment for students

4.      Four Characters: Swimming, Badminton, Botany and Chorus.

5.      Characters in seven aspects:

                             i.            Student Learning Certification

                           ii.            Set up learning-oriented organization, promote teacher’s professional ability.

                          iii.            Plan for advance in teacher’s professional abilities.

                        iv.            Set up reading groups.

                         v.            Develop channels for interactive dialogues and experience sharing among teachers.

                        vi.            Collect and publish teachers’ creative teaching ideas and methods.

                      vii.            Organize historical and geographical data in Shuanglian area, and publish them.

6.      Accomplishing the goal of library Information, purchase equipments for library and fully utilize library functions.

7.      Deepen and widen children’s readings and the abilities to search for information by holding activities such as “Reading Week”, “Book Exhibition”, and “Class Reading Group.”

8.      Begin to carry out the English as Second Language plan for all students from grade one to grade six, and hold English language video education periodically. Furthermore, arrange student into different study groups according to their differences in learning English. Students can learn better in an adoptive group.

9.      Cultivate multilingual children, and hold multilingual speech competition (in Mandarin, Taiwanese, Haka, Native and English languages) to promote students’ language ability. In addition, children will learn how to respect people from different culture, and become a member of global village.

10. In order to develop students’ extracurricular talents, we hold “Talent and Skill Show” for children annually.

11. Promote scientific knowledge and cultivate students’ information seeking ability. They will know how to word processing, graphic editing, sending a electronic mail, and browsing the Internet.

12. Our journal, Shuangliang Children, provides a place for students to publish excellent articles. It is also a channel for student and teacher to communicate. Moreover, students’ linguistic ability and creativity can be improved and they will learn to enjoy reading articles form other students.

13. The “Graduation Exhibition” which holds annually helps students to recognize their own ability through presentation. Other students can learn from graduates’ retrospective exhibition.

14. Children can have a “Learning Certification,” which encourages them to learn anytime, anywhere without physical limitations.  If children can do anything meaningful or good for our society, through teachers and parents’ certification, they will be proud of what they have done.

15. The program, Self-motivated continue education for teachers, encourages teachers to do researches related to their professionals or pursue further education.

16. “Teaching assistance system” improves teachers’ professional abilities through exchange teaching experiences.

17. “Project of advanced studies for teachers” arranges serial activities every Wednesday. This project includes: “Information Month for teachers”, “Health Education for teachers”, “Botany for teachers” and “Improve Counseling Skills for teachers”…etc.

18. “Sharing for Educational Beliefs”. Articles about educational beliefs will be shared with colleagues in administrative affairs meeting.  Latest educational information and directions will also be notified.

19. Encourage interactive conversation among teachers to share teaching experiences. In combine with theoretical and practical experiences, teachers’ professional ability can be enhanced.

20. Project of “Music all around Schoolyard” (Year 2000 ~2003)

                             i.            There will be a new song each semester, and students can sing it.

                           ii.            Encourage students to create lyrics and compose.

                          iii.            Publish students and teachers’ article collections.

21. Project of “Helping students to have a sound body and mind through physical exercise” (Year 2001 ~2007)

                             i.            Teach students to swim at least 25 meters long before graduated.

                           ii.            Winter badminton camp.

                          iii.            Develop students’ leadership and cooperative ability by joining extracurricular activities.

22. Project of “Legal Education” (Year 2001 ~2007)

                             i.            Help students to know the law and to be law abiding.

                           ii.            Outdoor activities for students.

23. We will frequently hold outdoor activities for children to experience life. Children’s knowledge will not be limited in books.

24. Improve students’ physique through physical exercises, such as new style gymnastics, track and field sports and swimming.

25. By joining extracurricular activities, such as Ta Kwon Do, chorus, flute, badminton and swimming, children will become healthier.

26. We will constantly provide boy scouts education, in order to develop children’s character and teach them discipline and pubic spirit.

27. Bring morality education to practice and keep the good habits life long.

28. With humanism, children will learn to care minors. They will have a bright future depends on their interests and abilities.

C. Environment and Equipments (環境與設備)

1.      A systematic plan to improve schoolyard: planting trees and flowers.

2.      Redecorate old buildings and construct new ones to improve learning environment.

3.      Improve and add more sport and gaming equipments.

4.      By improvement of electrical system, annoying problems such computer crashes can be solved.

5.      To ensure the quality of drinking water, we build water manage system by regularly inspecting water fountains and water towers.

6.      Attaching importance to a green environment, mowing grass, trimming trees weekly, and grow flowers quarterly will purify the air.

7.      Provide a lounge room for teachers to spend leisure hours.

8.      Among all plants in schoolyard, we will grow economic plants and traditional plants.

Chapter 6:
audit and evaluation(
考核評鑑)

1.      Project of mid-term and long-term educational development will be included in annual working plans.

2.      Set up audit team to review the progression of each projects.

3.      Principle is the leader of audit team, invites representatives from each organization to be the members of audit team, and starts the draft of audit plan.

4.      In order to reach the goals of projects and plans, the audit team will give credits to those who doing well. However, those who did not do well will be reasonably punished according to regulations.

5.      In the end of every year, we will review the progress according to audit team’s consensus as a reference for next year.
